How Long Will Invisible Braces Take To Work?

Invisalign Woodstock, GA

Invisible braces such as Invisalign® are a great way to improve appearance and gain more confidence. While many understand the benefits of invisible braces, all too many do not follow through with treatment as they fear they are not a good candidate or the process will take too long. It is helpful to have a full understanding of treatment before making a decision.

How invisible braces work

Every dental professional who offers invisible braces has their own method of treatment, but there are certain expectations one can have during the process. The following is an overview of invisible braces, including what it is, how long it takes and when to consider treatment.

Invisible braces defined

Invisible braces such as Invisalign® are durable transparent trays that are worn over teeth and gently pull and push teeth into a more attractive and well-aligned position. For many, they are a better option than traditional metal braces as they allow the patient to straighten their teeth with more discretion.

How long the process takes

The invisible braces process is unique for each patient and the amount of time the process takes depends on a range of factors. These factors include but are not limited to the severity of the issue that is being fixed, how often the patient wears the clear aligners each day and whether or not the patient misses any appointments. However, on average, invisible braces work faster than traditional braces. Whereas traditional braces often take close to two years, invisible braces work on average between 12 months and 18 months. For mild cases, treatment can take as little as six months.

When to consider invisible braces

Individuals who are not satisfied with how they look while smiling due to teeth misalignment, or individuals who find it hard to practice proper oral hygiene due to alignment issues, should consider how invisible braces can benefit them. Invisible braces can fix a range of alignment concerns, including:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Overcrowding
  • Gap teeth
  • Bite issues

Invisible braces, however, may not be as ideal as traditional braces for severe misalignments. For patients with a mild to moderate misalignment that wants a discreet treatment method, invisible braces can be a great option.

The benefits of invisible braces

The most notable benefit is that Invisalign® is very effective at correcting mild to moderate misalignments. One of the best benefits that invisible braces can offer that traditional braces cannot is the ability of the patient to straighten their smile without others noticing. The aligners are essentially invisible to others, which makes it a great option for older teenagers and adults who may otherwise feel embarrassed when wearing traditional metal braces.
